Strong start, poor execution

It has a somewhat interesting premise but fails to work with it. The mother starts off as an absolutely fascinating character - she was initially impoverished due to the death of her husband, but obtains great wealth and status by strategically marrying off her beautiful daughters.

The major conflict is that her youngest doesn't go along with this. The mother is upset; the daughter is upset because her fiance is a cheating moron who covets her but doesn't respect her.

After this she basically just becomes a generic villain who exists solely to try to make her daughter's life miserable, failing because she has a wonderful new husband that doesn't cheat. The mother's basic story can be summed up as "I did awful things to ensure that my daughters wouldn't need to endure what I had to, and I'll be damned if my daughter doesn't experience the same misery I did!"

Of course, her mother's plots amount to literally nothing with her husband around.

It is one thing to have a story of a woman giving up the wealth and status she's known for her entire life in exchange for freedom. It's quite another to have a woman give up her wealth and status in exchange for even more wealth and status. I didn't read far enough for it to be revealed that the ML is secretly royalty, but it's blatantly obvious.

The stand-outs for the first season are definitely the daughter (our lead) and the mother. The mother is the type of character who could be the protagonist of a whole other book. She's smart, competent, ambitious, and raised each of her daughters to be intelligent and attractive with her youngest (FMC) being the best trained of them. I'm a little upset her role in season 2 so far is her mostly having such a strong emotional response instead of political maneuvering, but there's been indications that there's a story behind that.
Our lead is great, too. But feels...unpolished, in some way. I'm hoping she grows in further seasons.
As usual, the male lead is weaker as a character than the protagonist and antagonist but eh. At least he's being constantly called on his shit by the lead and taught how to grow as a husband. (Great to see her constantly emphasising communication)

Magic has been mentioned in this world but it seems mostly irrelevant so far to the point where the story could've done without it. I suspect there's something to do with a baptismal prophecy, though, but would it kill them to give use a political romance fantasy that has no use for magic...and then continue to NOT randomly bring in magic? idk. It's a non-issue atm, just carry over frustration from other korean female-lead webtoons I've been reading.

No interest in any of the characters or the premise. The story might become better with time, but currently, after reading 15 chapters, I am still not interested in the dynamics.
